The Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training may suspend, revoke, or deny the certification of a police or law enforcement officer who fails to meet the requirements of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Act or has met such requirements by falsifying documents or failing to disclose information required for certification.  They provide accredited instruction, which is required for permanent appointment of full-time police and law officers.  The Governor appoints 10 out of 12 board members.  The Governor appoints 1 sheriff with a population less than 50,000, 1 sheriff with a population more than 50,000, 1 sheriff from a population with less than 10,000, 1 chief of police each from a city of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class, 1 training officer, 1 law enforcement officer, 1 county or district attorney, and 1 public member.
