The following statement is from Governor Laura Kelly regarding the Senate’s failure to bring the Medicaid expansion bill out of committee:

“It is very clear that a strong majority in the Kansas Senate support Medicaid expansion and want the opportunity to debate and vote on it this year. I’m pleased with their courage and determination. I’m also grateful for the work of so many advocates and citizens who fought tirelessly during April to make their voices heard on this issue.

“Medicaid expansion is one of the most critical issues left to address this year. There are only two senators – Susan Wagle and Jim Denning – who are preventing a vote on this bill. There are two senators who are preventing 150,000 hardworking Kansans from having access to health care. Over 70 percent of Kansans support Medicaid expansion. Now is the time to get it done.”
