Governor Laura Kelly Discusses Affordable Housing Opportunities in Alma

TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly traveled to Alma today to discuss the state’s efforts to provide Kansans with safe, affordable housing options. Governor Kelly toured housing units in Alma developed through grants and loans provided through the Moderate Income Housing Program.

“Affordable housing is a vital component of recruiting and retaining workers, families, and entrepreneurs to help rural and urban Kansas thrive,” Governor Kelly said. “We cannot capitalize on our record-breaking economic success if we don’t have affordable housing options for our workforce. Together we will work to develop more decent, safe, affordable, and accessible housing.”

Governor Kelly was accompanied by representatives from the Office of Rural Prosperity, Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, and local community leaders. During the tour, Governor Kelly discussed the results of the first comprehensive statewide housing needs assessment completed in over 27 years.

Kelly also discussed her budget proposal that allocates $20 million to the Moderate Income Housing Program run by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.
